AppViz 1.7 Release Notes

This is a major release of AppViz with new features, bug fixes, performance improvements, and general polish. All told there this release contains over 250 feature enhancements and bug fixes. The most important changes are outlined below.

We’d like to thank our excellent beta testers and everyone who has sent in bug reports and feature requests for making this release possible. Anything that works correctly, is due to their help. Anything that doesn’t is entirely on us. Thanks!

If you’d like to see other features in the next version, don’t like how something looks, or run into any bugs, we’d love to hear from you at support@ideaswarm.com or @AppViz on Twitter.

Major Features

  • Snow Leopard Full support for Mac OS X 10.6.
  • Multiple Account Support You can now add multiple accounts through the data -> Manage Accounts menu item or AppViz preferences.
  • In-App Purchases Support In-App purchases will show up when you import reports with in-app sales. Select the in-app purchase in the left view to choose an icon to represent the app.
  • Ranking Download AppViz 1.7 includes a new rankings view, on the top of the left menu. You can also configure integration with the third party paid applyzer.com service through the preferences. This server provides faster downloads and top 1000 rankings.
  • Financial Region Support Region breakdowns now appear on the dashboard and region filters can be selected for the graphs and reports views.
  • Multi-select from Products Any combination of products and accounts can be selected from the left list to see data for just the selected applications. This replaces the old all product view.
  • Download on Startup This can be configured in the preferences.
  • Configurable Import Steps Configure the web and file import steps through the preferences. This allows you to download rankings and reviews as part of your daily download.
  • Automatic Backup Configurable backup of report files in the preferences.
  • Trend Graph See how your application sales are trending over time.
  • Review Date and Version These are now picked up for newly downloaded reviews and displayed on the reviews tab. This replaces the old downloaded date, which was the date that you downloaded the reviews.
  • More Countries Support has been added for 15 new countries. AppViz now supports all countries with app stores.
  • Collapsible Filters Make more room for your data on the graphs and rankings views.
  • Open in iTunes Right click on an app icon in the summary view on the right to open that app in iTunes, if applicable.
  • More Export Types
  • Archive Import Support for importing .zip and gzip files, including nested files.

Minor Features

  • Option to round off zeroes, on by default, available in the preferences.
  • Original currency and amounts are now shown on the reports page.
  • Copy paste from table views to import into Excel or Numbers more easily.
  • The star summary at the top now reflects the average rating, including non-review ratings, for ALL stores.

Performance Improvements

  • Significant performance improvements to every part of the app. There’s more headroom here, so expect this to continue to improve.
  • Icons are no longer re-downloaded on each web import. You can right click on an icon to change it or force re-download from the data menu.
  • The ‘calculating daily data’ step is now much faster for regular use.
  • Review downloading speed has been improved.

Major Bug fixes

  • Icons are now downloaded from non-US stores.
  • A black box will no longer appear in the bottom left of the screen if there is a missing icon.
  • Fixed a bug with encoding of report files and unicode characters in company names that could cause sales discrepancies.
  • Monthly report download failures are now retried several times, which fixes a bug with time outs for these report types when downloading 30+ reports at once.
  • Fixed bug where multiple reviews by the same author would either cause duplicates to appear on the review tab and/or cause the review to keep bouncing to the top of the list.
  • cmd-w now properly closes AppViz windows.
  • Fixed the date jumping bug on the graphs view, that made it hard to use the date control to select a range.
  • Fixed the report selection jumping bug on the reports view.
  • Zero values in graphs now properly fall to zero.
